A palazzo apartment
unlike any other

Casa Verri resides within an old palazzo built around 1650, located in the very centre of the medieval town of Città della Pieve. Picturesque, authentic and deeply comfortable, it sits perfectly at the midpoint between Rome and Florence.

The apartment has the unique quality of being entered at ground level — so no carrying of suitcases up stairs — yet thanks to the natural slope of the hill, the beautiful rear loggia is elevated with stunning views across the Umbrian valley below.

We know your time spent here will become a wonderful lifetime memory.

Everything you need for a perfect stay

Being part of a 350-year-old building, this apartment is a long way from perfect — the floors dip, the thick walls bend, the water pressure is gentle. These are some of the things we love most about it. This is not a modern hotel; it is something far more special.

Perfectly placed
between Rome & Florence

Città della Pieve is an historic hilltop town in the Italian province of Umbria, sitting right on the Umbrian–Tuscan border. It is large enough to have wonderful restaurants, bars, speciality shops and two supermarkets, yet small enough to feel like a local in a working town that the throngs of tourists have not yet discovered.

All amenities are within walking distance, making it entirely possible to spend your entire stay here on foot — simply wandering down the street to sit in a café and absorb the atmosphere.

The nearest train stop is Chiusi, a taxi ride away (€15–20), from which Florence and Rome are just 1.5 hours by fast train. The A1 motorway connecting Rome and Florence is only 10km away.

A town that
comes alive

Città della Pieve, despite its size, is remarkably well-served. Within the medieval walls you'll find two supermarkets, approximately 20 restaurants, banks and ATMs, speciality shops including a wonderful maker of fresh handmade pasta and two artisan butchers, a hospital and a pharmacy.

The small teatro (opera house) built in 1830 and recently restored over a decade of renovation is an absolute jewel — check local posters for performances. The town is home to Umbria's most famous Renaissance artist, Il Perugino, and claims the smallest street in all of Italy.

Annual highlights include several food festivals and the renowned medieval festival Palio dei Terzieri, running over 12 days in mid-August. Those wishing to improve their Italian will find one of Italy's finest language schools, Il Sasso, just 35 minutes away in Montepulciano.
